So let’s talk about this. It seems like society has set a label, and when you become a mom, apparently you stop being everything else and you’re nothing else but a mom. Which honestly, to me, from the get-go, seemed absolutely ridiculous. How am I going to be able to raise a decent woman in this world without actually being all that a woman needs to be?
In fact, the reason I started my blog was because I wanted to keep in touch with what being a woman entails. So when I put this outfit together and styled these suede boots (which are a dream) my husband said, “you look so hot.” And I thought, well I was thinking of shooting this with Vera, is that not OK because I look hot? But then I thought, wait, why would it not be ok not to look hot, just because a baby is wrapped around my body?
We’re women. we are the closest thing to a superhero. We can be anything we want to be anytime, any day. And yes, we can be sexy and we can be moms, and we can be smart, and we can be blonde, and we can be tall, and we can be athletes, and lawyers and bloggers and presidents. And we are the only ones who can be mothers. And that’s my favorite label, but it’s not my only label. Don’t stop being you. Don’t let the label of mother cancel out all your fabulous others. Complement motherhood with what you actually are. Grow together. Be inspiring and inspired by motherhood. And don’t let society tell you that you somehow stopped being a regular woman just because you had a baby. We are everything, and then we are more.

Bueno, hablemos de esto. Parece que la sociedad ha decidido etiquetar a las mujeres y cuando te conviertes en mamá aparentemente dejas de ser todo lo que eras y ya no eres nada más, sólo mamá. Y a mí, desde el go, esa idea me pareció absolutamente absurda. En mi mente no es posible criar a un hijo en este mundo sin ser todo lo que una mujer realmente es.
De hecho, la razón por la cual comencé mi blog fue porque quería hacer algo que me mantuviese activa y trabajando en algo que me hiciera seguir creciendo como mujer y como profesional. Entonces cuando me probé este look y se lo mostré a Jonathan, me dijo, “te ves súper sexy.” E inmediatamente pensé, bueno, quería hacer esta sesión con Vera – ¿será que no está bien, será que es inapropiado? Pero luego dije, ¿por qué no está bien lucir un poco sexy sólo porque tengo una bebé?
Nosotras somos mujeres. La realidad es que somos lo más cercano a un superhéroe o a un ser divino y superior. Podemos ser lo que sea, lo que queramos cuando queramos. Y sí es posible ser mamá y ser sexy. Podemos ser bellas, inteligentes, atletas, escritoras, bloggers, cocineras y hasta presidente y somos las únicas que podemos ser madres y con seguridad esa es mi etiqueta favorita pero no es mi única etiqueta. No dejes de ser tu misma.
No dejes que la etiqueta de “mamá” cancele todas las demás. Complementa la maternidad con lo que eres desde tu esencia. Crezcan juntos, inspírate y sé inspiración por y para la maternidad y por favor no dejes que la sociedad te diga que porque tienes un bebé de repente dejaste de ser una persona normal. Nosotras lo somos todo y después somos un poco más.
