I don’t know if I’m late to the party, but one thing I’ve realized in the last few years is how much I LOVE road trips – traveling is just good for the soul – and it’s so easy to spice things up by just hopping in the car, rolling the windows down, and cruising somewhere far away from your daily routine.
With this in mind, Mr. P’s birthday always falls right around Labor Day, which is the last three day weekend of the summer and perfect for taking a mini vacation to relax and do something new. Yes, I know, I had #NYFW the week after, but I just couldn’t resist the opportunity to travel two weeks in a row! This year, since we moved back from Miami we decided we would visit his family to celebrate his special day together, and we figured we would also visit the historic triangle (Jamestown, Williamsburg, Yorktown) with Vera for the first time!
I was lucky enough to partner with Toyota on this trip to drive their new 2017 Highlander – a beautiful SUV that offers everything a family could ask for and more. Not only does it meet (and exceed) everything on your typical check list (in terms of comfort, size, and quality of the drive), but it also had so many small details that made the drive much easier than we expected. We didn’t have to worry about cars getting trapped in our blind spot, for example, because a small light flashes in your side mirrors every time a car is in a space you can’t see in your mirrors. It has three rows, and on top of offering tons of space for a big family, it also has a good sized trunk for luggage, strollers, coolers, etc. We were able to drive with a couple of friends who also brought luggage (note, we travel like we’re leaving the country even on a 3 day trip –giggles) and the 5 of us fit with plenty of space. I definitely recommend this vehicle to anyone thinking about getting an SUV, whether it be for a trip or to keep!
This was an ideal trip because 1) we got the chance to see places we hadn’t seen in years, 2) it’s only a few hours from DC so it’s incredibly convenient, and 3) we didn’t have to make Vera wait in the car too long (and she slept the whole way, very relaxed)! Overall we loved the trip, and thanks to Toyota’s #LetsGoPlaces program, we were able to travel in style and more comfortable than we could have imagined!

No sé si estoy tarde pero me di cuenta en los últimos años lo mucho que me fascina irme de viaje y en particular hacer road trips! Viajar es buenísimo para relajarse, reinventarse, conocer y probar cosas nuevas – y no hay nada más divertido que montarse al carro a último minuto, bajar las ventanas y perderse un poco y olvidarse de la rutina diaria.
Con muchas ganas de irme de viaje aún antes #NYFW (el verano tiene esa capacidad, verdad? O soy yo solamente?), decidimos aprovechar el hecho de que ahora vivimos mucho más cerca de la familia de Mr. P., y como su cumpleaños siempre cae el fin de semana de Labor Day, fue la oportunidad perfecta para celebrarlo con familia y también conocer el triángulo histórico de Jamestown, Williamsburg y Yorktown con Vera por primera vez!
Tuve la suerte de colaborar con Toyota y hacer el viaje con su nuevo Highlander del año, que es un SUV bellísimo y ofrece más de lo que cualquier familia pudiera pedir. No sólo cumple (y supera) todos los requisitos que podrías tener en términos de comodidad, tamaño y la calidad del vehículo, sino también tiene muchísimos detalles que lo convierten en el carro ideal para viajes diarios y también de road trips en particular! Por ejemplo, nunca tuvimos que preocuparnos de lo que hacían otros carros porque el Highlander es muy seguro, y hasta te avisa con una luz en cada espejo cuando alguien está en tu punto ciego. Tiene tres filas, ofrece muchísimo espacio para una familia de 7-8 personas y también tiene una maletera grande para maletas, coches de bebé, cavas, etc. Fuimos con unos amigos que también llevaron maletas (claro, nosotros siempre viajamos como si estuviésemos saliendo del país hasta para un viaje para el fin de semana, entonces se imaginan cuánto llevamos –risas) y los 5 entramos súper cómodos! Sin duda les recomiendo el Highlander si están considerando conseguir un SUV, aunque sea sólo para viajar!
Este viaje fue ideal porque 1) logramos ver muchos sitios lindos que no habíamos visto en varios años, 2) sólo queda a 2 horas de DC entonces es muy conveniente y 3) pudimos manejar con calma puesto que Vera no tuvo que esperar mucho en el carro – y durmió tranquilamente todo el viaje! Nos encantó el viaje, y gracias a Toyota y el programa de #LetsGoPlaces viajamos muy cómodos!
