Frida Kahlo Themed Painting Party
Vera’s first book, even before she was born, was of Frida Kahlo, and from that point on we’ve made sure that her book collection gives her a sense (even if it’s subconsciously) of female empowerment, and that they allow her to explore her imagination and help her develop and achieve her potential (a lot, I know, but books really are that important!). Vera isn’t your average toddler, sometimes I stop when I say that because I know I could be biased as I am her Mom, but when I see her around other kids her age it’s very clear how she differentiates herself in how she speaks, communicates her emotions, and expresses her frustrations. Although she’s a little fireball, she’s also a sweetheart and (to Mr. P’s chagrin) a big kisser! She’s a rollercoaster of fun and learning so quickly right now. That’s why when it came time to celebrate her birthday we knew we should make it something special, tailored to her personality. A couple of months ago we went to Mexico City and visited the Frida Kahlo museum, one of my favorite artists and women of all times, and somehow my fascination in Frida transferred to Vera in the last two years, and now she also recognizes Frida and screams out her name whenever she sees her in bookstores or paintings.
The idea was perfect: a Frida Kahlo Themed Painting Party! We knew she would absolutely love it. Drawing and painting is one of her favorite activities, we encourage her to do it every day and not only does she not get tired of it, but she is also more creative and active each time she puts crayons or paint to paper.
With this in mind, I had seen Erianna’s work on Instagram (Click here to see her instagram account @ericiosa), and I immediately knew she would be the perfect person to develop my idea. Once she heard the idea, she transformed it into a magical and very artistic reality – I only provided her with the color palette I wanted for the party, since I wanted Vera’s favorite colors and personality in general to be included in the idea, and she developed amazing details for the entire party’s decoration.
The Frida Kahlo theme and colors were especially made for Vera, and everything came out superbly and beautifully (see the pictures below!). I was in charge of actually setting everything up and bringing all of the details together for the party itself, since Erianna lives in Venezuela, and luckily I had recently taken a Master Class by Papilot on how to structure and set-up party tables, designs, and all of the little details. I felt uber-well prepared and I’m so thankful to Imari and Carito for all they taught me! Also thanks thanks and thanks to Tierra Events for sending Vera all the flowers for her party, they were a dream, you guys rock! And a special thanks to Chocolati Bar who sent the most beautiful, delicate and delicious sugar cookies all the way from Miami (Check out the instagram page here).
I made a Painting Station, which included a children’s table with a gold table mat, and we added canvas and paint for all of the kids to run wild with their imagination. This was perfect to keep them entertained (for children’s of all ages, 2-12!), which was one of my biggest challenges while throwing a party for toddlers. We also brought children-sized aprons for the little ones, which they loved!
In the end everything came together perfect and better than I expected. It was magical to see her blow out her own candle, see her paint, dance, sing, and enjoy the afternoon with friends and family.

El primer libro de Vera, incluso antes de que naciera, fue de Frida Kahlo, de ahí en adelante nos hemos encargado de crear para ella una colección de libros que la empoderen en su femineidad, que exploten su imaginación y la ayuden a desarrollar su potencial. Vera no es una pequeña común, a veces creo que lo pienso sólo porque es mi hija pero luego la veo entre otros niños de su edad y es claro cómo se desenvuelve, con una facilidad diferenciable: ¡habla muchísimo y además te expresa sentimientos y frustraciones! ¡Al mismo tiempo es cariñosa y besucona! Es toda una montaña rusa… Por eso al momento de celebrar su cumpleaños sabíamos que debía ser algo muy especial. Hace un par de meses estuvimos en Ciudad de México y visitamos el museo de Frida Kahlo, una de mis artistas y mujeres favoritas de la historia, tal admiración de alguna manera ha sido transferida a Vera, la reconoce con facilidad y grita su nombre con emoción y fluidez.
La idea era perfecta: un Frida Kahlo Themed Painting Party! Sabíamos que lo iba a amar. Dibujar o pintar es uno de sus juegos favoritos, lo hacemos todos los días y ella no sólo no se cansa sino que cada vez es más y más creativa y activa al momento de hacerlo.
Había visto el trabajo de Erianna en Instagram (aqui esta su instagram @ericiosa), e inmediatamente al escoger el tema supe que quería que fuese ella quien lo desarrollara. El resultado fue mágico y súper “artístico” yo solo le dije la paleta de colores que queríamos pues a pesar de que queríamos usar la imagen de Frida también queríamos mantener la personalidad y estilo de Vera y ella hizo su magia! Gracias infinitas a ella y a su equipo de trabajo por el desarrollo tan perfecto de esta idea.
Todo el theme fue diseñado especialmente para Vera. El resultado fue súper mágico. Yo misma me encargué del montaje, después de atender a la Master Class de Papilot en montaje para fiestas me sentí súper capaz (Gracias especiales a Imari y Carito por todos sus tips y consejos). Miles de gracias tambien a Tierra Events por enviarle a Vera todas las flores para su fiesta, estaban ESPECTACULARES!. Además una mención super especial también para Chocolati Bar que nos envió desde Miami las galletas mas ricas y lindas del mundo! (Pueden ver su instagrama qui).
Creamos un Painting Station: una mesa para los niños, el mantel fue desechable y dorado, agregamos cavas y pinturas y dejamos que los pequeños dejaran correr su imaginación. Esto fue increíble para entretenerlos y mantenerlos ocupados, que era uno de mis retos en una fiesta de toddlers. También compramos painting aprons para los niños.
Al final todo quedó mucho más bello de lo que nos imaginábamos. Fue súper maravilloso verla apagar su velita, verla pintar, bailar, cantar y disfrutar toda la tarde en compañía de nuestra familia y amigos.

Como hubiese amado estar alli con ustedes en la fiesta. Ayudar con todo, tomar muchas fotos y compartir este momento tan unico. SI bien no estamos para los mas grandes, amamos estar en los pequenos. En el dia a dia. Y estamos super agradecidos por eso.
